Overview

In August 2023, I worked with Asian Connections Hub as a product designer on the development of their new product, Sunny Side—an inclusive mental wellness app. I collaborated cross-functionally with a team of product designers, software engineers, and product managers to shape its features through research, design, and iterations.

Although due to NDA, I couldn't share much here. However, I would be happy to share my learnings and and provide a case study during an interview.

What I've learned

The most significant lesson I learned during the development of this mobile application was the importance of balancing organizational goals with user needs. I realized that achieving a perfect design in real-world settings is not always feasible. Instead, it is critical to identify and prioritize user needs while meeting the organizational goals and constraints.

How I balanced between constraints and goals

For instance, we initially wanted to incorporate numerous features in the first phase. However, due to organizational constraints, we had to narrow our focus to a few key areas. To address this challenge, we conducted a series of user research to understand the primary user needs and prioritize our efforts accordingly. As a result of this adjustment, we successfully shipped the product on time and achieved a user success rate growth of 15%.
